Dr Tiarna Ernst

With a passion for women’s health, gender equality, education and leadership Dr Tiarna Ernst brings with her an exceptionally high-performing work ethic, attention to detail and clear communication.
Tiarna was born and raised in rural Far North Queensland. After graduating from James Cook University in 2011 with First Class Honours, she completed her Masters in Reproductive Medicine at the University of NSW which she graduated with excellence. Tiarna obtained her Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (RANZCOG) Fellowship following training at Monash Health, Victoria and the Royal Brisbane & Women’s Hospital, Queensland.
While working as a fulltime Obstetrics & Gynaecology registrar in both Melbourne and Brisbane Tiarna balanced the demands of being an elite athlete. She was drafted to the Western Bulldogs in the inaugural AFL Womens (AFLW) Competition and became renowned for being one of the most durable athletes to play AFLW, playing four seasons and every fixture game. Tiarna played for the Western Bulldogs for three years, becoming a premiership winning player in 2018 before signing with the Gold Coast Suns in 2020 and was named in their leadership group.
Tiarna is a passionate advocate for women’s equality within the sporting landscape and has contributed to many high level discussions, negotiating playing contract terms and conditions for the future of the AFLW competition. Following retirement from elite sport representation in late 2020, Tiarna has continued to advocate for women’s equality and opportunities to peruse their career and sporting interests. She continues to educate and support the next generation of female athletes on women’s health, menstrual, pregnancy and fertility issues.
Tiarna is delighted to manage all areas of gynaecology and fertility care including:
- IVF and fertility
- Gynaecology
- Colposcopy and management of abnormal cervical smears
- Laparoscopic and minimally invasive surgery
- Special interest in female athlete fertility and menstrual health
Tiarna prides herself on her unwavering dedication to a progressive, compassionate, and evidence-based approach to treatment for each of her patient’s needs.
Tiarna is also actively involved in teaching University of Queensland medical students where she holds a title of senior lecturer and contributing to the development of the Queensland Clinical Guidelines for Obstetrics & Gynaecology care. She has a public appointment at the Royal Brisbane & Women’s Hospital where she supports and mentors junior O&G trainees.
